The problem

Shelter is one small illustrated shelter whose sound and scenery follow the real weather somewhere you choose: a city, or a place you name, like “Mum in Lisbon”.

The decisions

  • A local Swift audio module under Expo and React Native: the mix is shaped natively, playback survives a locked screen, and the sleep timer uses an absolute deadline that fades to silence.
  • Apple Weather's latest reading drives the scene; only the chosen place's coordinates are sent, and “Your own weather” works fully offline.
  • No account, ads, analytics or tracking. The artwork is original; the sound is mixed from public-domain (CC0) field recordings.

Out in the world

On the App Store as “Cozy Shelter”. Canvas, glass and metal roofs with their own rain textures, Home and Lock Screen widgets, saved rooms.
